De Zilk, a cute little village in “The Bollenstreek” is the place where I grew up. And it’s an ideal place to grow up as a child. The beach, the Dunes and Flower fields are all nearby. From a young age we started working for the bulb growers and made some extra pocket money. I think I was around 10 when I started, would be illegal today! Nearby towns of Haarleim and Leiden, and Amsterdam a bit further away, made it into a comfy place to live in.

The header photo shows folk skating on the “Leidse vaart”. Quite normal when I was young but nowadays an exception with the much milder winters. Below are some photos of De Zilk but there are more photos of the area in other galleries as well.
